All nine Survivors in version 1.0

Yet Another Zombie Survivors has nine playable characters in version 1.0. Every Survivor brings a distinct weapon family and combat role, while a full run can grow from one leader into a three-person squad.

How to choose a leader and two supports

Pick the leader for the team-wide rule you want, then fill the other two slots with the damage and safety the run still lacks.

Choose SWAT when you want a readable firearm start, Tank when armor and forgiving positioning matter, or Engineer when frequent abilities define the plan. Huntress suits critical teams, while Ranger can support Critical and Luck together and add healing.

Followers should solve specific gaps. Medic adds sustain. Ghost adds close-range slashing damage. Pyro adds persistent fire coverage. Mechanic supports contraption-heavy ability plans. A strong team does not need three characters chasing the same stat if one slot could instead prevent a collapse against bosses or dense waves.

Rank 5 expands this choice in version 1.0. Every Survivor gains new synergy nodes, passive improvements, and a team-wide passive that works while that Survivor is present. Check the active skill trees before copying an older tier list, because rankings made before release do not include the full roster or current nodes.

Unlock context for the roster

The roster opens through the game's permanent progression and unlock achievements. The current in-game unlock panel is the best place to check the next requirement because older guides can predate newer Survivors and rank changes.

Ranger has a confirmed version 1.0 requirement of Survival Level 175. She is the ninth Survivor and arrives with a crossbow, animal companions, Fear effects, healing options, and team support for Critical and Luck.

Unlocking a character only starts that character's progression. Survivor ranks and skill-tree nodes then determine how much of the kit and team value is available, so compare characters at similar investment before treating one as universally stronger.

Role-based starting choices

Use this short decision guide when the full roster feels overwhelming:

  • Pick SWAT for a straightforward ranged foundation.
  • Pick Tank when survival and space control are the immediate problem.
  • Pick Engineer for electric chains, shields, and frequent abilities.
  • Pick Huntress or Ranger when a critical-focused squad is the goal.
  • Pick Ghost for aggressive slashing damage and accept the closer positioning.
  • Pick Medic when healing is more valuable than another pure damage slot.
  • Pick Pyro for persistent fire across dense groups.
  • Pick Mechanic when crafted tools and ability support fit the build.

These are role choices, not a fixed tier list. Weapons, items, rank nodes, map hazards, and the two other squad members can change which Survivor is best for a particular run.
